Dear ASG member,

As you know, we worked hard to achieve tax exempt status for the ASG, and now we are very pleased to tell you that the 16" RCOS telescope that was donated to the Greenwich Board of Education is in hand, ready to be installed at the Bowman Observatory! The new telescope will allow increased usage and ease of use of the Observatory by Greenwich school students, and it will substantially increase the number of sightings visitors can enjoy on public nights.

But first...funds are needed to build a pier, and purchase a Paramount ME and other necessary equipment for the new scope. ASG has committed to raise the money because the Board of Education does not have any funds available for this purpose.

Estimated total cost for the project is $24,000.00, of which $17,700.00 has already been generously pledged, leaving a shortfall of $6,300.00 to be raised.

If you would like to make a contribution to this project, please make your check payable to Astronomical Society of Greenwich, and send it to Anne Burns, The Bruce Museum, 1 Museum Drive, Greenwich, CT 06830-7157. Please note on your check "Telescope Fund."

Since ASG is now classified as a charity, you will be provided with an acknowledgment of your gift for tax purposes.

Do you have any contacts in the Greenwich community who might be willing to underwrite or provide a grant for this project such as local businesses, or corporations headquartered in Greenwich?

Once all the money has been raised, we can begin construction, hopefully sometime this fall.

We look forward to hearing from you.

With thanks in advance,

Rick Bria
Vice President
On behalf of the ASG Board of Directors

The ASG's opening of the Observatory for the education and benefit of the public continues under the auspices of Greenwich Continuing Education. GCE offers a wide variety of courses for adults and we hope our members will take advantage of this essential service.

Many thanks to Former First Selectman Lash, the Greenwich Board of Education, Greenwich Continuing Education, and to all involved for their invaluable support...

As always, we need ideas for speakers and volunteers (besides Rick Bria!) to give programs. Please think about it and help us out.
