Two Hale-Bopp Photos

This photo of comet Hale-Bopp was taken from Ward pound ridge , NY on April 1,1997 through a 5 1/2" Schmidt camera. The exposure was 1 min on 400 film. The ground was snow covered which made light pollution a problem.

Notice the blue (ion) tail to the top of the photo, and the broad yellow (dust) tail to the bottom.

This photo was taken from Ward pound ridge, NY with a 210mm telephoto at f/3.5 and 2 min exposure piggybacked on a 10"sct. The film was 1600 asa slide film.

What an incredible sight this comet was!
